As the largest copper and molybdenum producer in North America, we have opportunities at multiple locations for you to join our company. In the United States, we have six copper mines: Morenci, Bagdad, Sierrita and Safford in Arizona, and Tyrone and Chino in New Mexico. We have molybdenum mining operations in Colorado at the Henderson mine and the Climax mine, and we produce molybdenum concentrates at several other mine sites, primarily Sierrita, Bagdad and Morenci. We also have multiple processing facilities throughout the U.S. All of our sites in the U.S. are open-pit mines except Henderson.

Bagdad Operations

Copper mine
As a company-owned town, Bagdad offers employees single-family homes, a family atmosphere and numerous amenities, including an aquatic center, a golf course and a fitness center. Located 100 miles northwest of Phoenix, Bagdad is home to the world's first commercial-scale concentrate leach processing facility as well as one of the longest continously operating solvent extraction / electrowinning plant in the world. Just 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwest New Mexico, the Chino mine includes a 36,300-metric-ton-per-day concentrator producing copper and molybdenum concentrates and a solvent extraction / electrowinning facility.

Leadville, a charming, historic mountain town 100 miles southwest of Denver, is North America's highest incorporated city, at an elevation of 10,430 feet. Molybdenum mine and mill
Just 42 miles west of Denver, the Henderson block-cave underground mine is close to spectacular hiking, biking, rafting and skiing in the Rocky Mountains. In addition, for employees working on-site at the mine or mill, you may be eligible for a $1,450 monthly housing allowance. The molybdenum mine and mill are connected by a 15-mile conveyor belt - the largest of its kind in the world - that passes under the Continental Divide. Morenci Operations

Copper mine
Morenci is nestled in an area know for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, camping and hunting. The town is owned by the company and offers employees and their families a number of amenities including company housing, a newly constructed day care and community center, a library, health-care facilities, a fitness center, a movie theater, and a skate park. For employees working on-site and not residing in company housing, you may be eligible for a $750 monthly housing allowance. The Safford mine is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. It's been in operation since 2007 in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest with fishing, rafting, hiking and more. Nearby educational options for you or your family include a Northern Arizona University satellite campus, Eastern Arizona College and the Gila Institute for Technology.
Sierrita Operations

Sierrita is a mining complex located 20 miles south of Tucson, Arizona’s second largest city. Our nearby Mine Training Institute provides our people with a new, state-of-the-art training facility that includes classrooms, lab space and simulators. In addition to copper and molybdenum, the mine produces rhenium, a rare and highly valued metal.
Tyrone
Tyrone, New Mexico
Copper mine
Located 10 miles from Silver City, the Tyrone mine originally was mined by Native American communities for turquoise. After decades as an underground mine, the property began operation as an open pit in 1967. Tyrone’s solvent extraction / electrowinning copper processing facilities operate with a maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper per year.

Resource Management Center

The Resource Management Center is the primary facility providing direct company support for our liability management activities. Employees from diverse disciplines evaluate current and emerging technologies to provide solutions for land, water and other environmental liabilities, including closure, reclamation, remediation, water treatment, revegetation, dust control, and environmental geochemistry and mineralogy.
El Paso Rod and Refining
El Paso, Texas
Our rod and refining plant in El Paso, Texas, is a key contributor to our ranking as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous cast copper rod, a main material used in the manufacturing of wire and cable products. The El Paso refinery has the potential to operate at an annual production capacity of about 900 million pounds of copper cathode, which is sufficient to refine all of the copper anode we produce at our Miami, Arizona operation. Our El Paso refinery also produces nickel carbonate, copper telluride and autoclaved slimes material containing gold, silver, platinum and palladium.
Fort Madison Molybdenum Conversion Facility
Fort Madison, Iowa
The Fort Madison chemical plant, operational since late 1977, is an important companion to other conversion and operating facilities of Climax Molybdenum Company, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan. The plant was expanded in 1995, maintaining its status as the largest facility of its type in the world. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River in southeast Iowa, the Fort Madison facility is the world’s largest and highest-quality producer of lubricant grade molybdenum disulfide, sublimed pure molybdic oxide, calcined pure molybdic oxide, ammonium dimolybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, ammonium octamolybdate and sodium molybdate.

Miami, Arizona
Smelter and rod mill
Our Miami smelter and rod mill is in the heart of Arizona's historic Globe-Miami mining district. Located 90 miles east of Phoenix, the smelter processes copper concentrate primarily from our company’s Arizona copper mines and also is the most significant source of sulphuric acid for our North America leaching operations. The rod mill produces 7,500-pound and 15,000-pound copper rod coils.

Our Technology Center is home to a team of globally recognized engineers and scientists who provide innovative mining, processing and environmental solutions to our operations throughout the world. Our people make use of state-of-the-art laboratories and test facilities, including a fully automated analytical lab—the first of its kind in the Americas. Employees provide direct support in a variety of areas: mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, analytical chemistry, mineralogy, process economics, mining and geology.
